Frequently Asked Questions

Who is running this event?

Celebration Church United Kingdom Limited is a registered charity. The church has been meeting in Park Wood for a number of years, and has a heart to serve the community. Since March 2020, Celebration Church has been providing practical support to local households during the covid pandemic and lockdown through The Life Café Project - initially a food support project which grew to include befriending phone calls and emergency prescription collections. Our vision as a church is to grow our community support and build relationships with local families through a range of projects. This is why we are launching Celebrate Summer, a free family event to give local children a well-deserved week of fun and fellowship after a very tough year.

Lydia Olliver is facilitating this event, along with a team of fantastic volunteers. Lydia has worked in children's ministry for five years as an employee of the Family Trust (a local children's charity), and many years before that as a volunteer. She has a huge passion for giving children the chances that they may otherwise miss out on due to socioeconomic challenges.

Who is on the team?

Every volunteer involved in our team will hold a current DBS certificate and will be known to our team so that we can ensure that they are suitable for working with children. Many of our volunteers live in the local area and serve in their church ministry. We all share a heart for children and young people and want them to have an amazing summer. Our team are responsible to Lydia as the Project Facilitator, who oversees all safeguarding considerations involved in the event. As an organisation we are registered members of the  Thirtyone:eight safeguarding body.

What can my child expect from a day at Celebrate Summer?

Each day will be packed with team challenges, games, craft activities, stories, and fun. We will provide a daily meal at lunch time as well as refreshments throughout the day (keeping the children hydrated and well, especially on hot weather days).

Do we have to be a Christian family to come?

No, there is no requirement for your child or your family to have a faith background. This event is open to anyone and everyone! Our team will be made up of those with a Christian faith due to the church being the facilitators of the event, and we are very happy to have conversations about our beliefs with any interested children or families. Our main aim is not to 'convert' children at this event, but to give children a great experience after a tough year.

How much does it cost?

This event is free to local families, we do not want any children to miss out based on financial constraints. We have been very blessed to receive a grant from Maidstone Lions Club to cover the main costs of the event, and have been able to borrow and share resources from local community partners to keep our costs as low as possible.

Do parents need to stay during the event?

At present, parents will not be able to stay during the event due to covid limitations on group sizes, however parents will have contact information for our team should they need to get in touch during the day. If there are any issues or a child wishes to leave early, we will contact parents via the contact details provided on your registration form. If you would like to remain nearby, there is a Greggs along Wallis Avenue where you can grab a coffee to enjoy on the local green!

Does my child have to come every day?

No, you can register your child for any or all of the five days available. Just tick the dates you would like to register for on your child's form. If you choose to register for just one or two days to give it a try, you may be able to add later days to your booking during the week subject to spaces being available.

What happens if I register but my child cannot attend?
As spaces are limited, we really want to avoid places being wasted if someone books but does not attend as this may be taking away from another child being able to come. We understand that plans may change! Therefore if circumstances change after you fill in your registration, please let us know as soon as you can so that we can offer the space to any children who are waiting.

If you have any other questions or would like to speak to our team, please email lydia@lifecafeproject.com or call 01622 801337 and ask to speak to Lydia.
